HIV/AIDS around the World



In 2007, around 420 000 children aged 14 or younger became infected with HIV. It is estimated that 1.3 million people are living with HIV in North America and 760 000 in Western and Central Europe. In these two regions, AIDS claimed approximately 33 000 lives in 2007. Some 150 000 people were infected with HIV in 2007 in Central Asia and Eastern Europe. Currently, 4.8 million living with HIV/AIDS in Asia. AIDS killed a further 25 000 people in 2007 in North Africa and the Middle East. An estimated 1.8 million people are living with HIV in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The Abortion
From 1973 through 2005, more than 45 million legal abortions were performed. Each year, about two out of every 100 women aged 15–44 have an abortion; 47% of them have had at least one previous abortion. Fifty percent of U.S. women obtaining abortions are younger than 25: Women aged 20–24 obtain 33% of all abortions, and teenagers obtain 17%. Women who have never married obtain two-thirds of all abortions.
