IM going to talk about Kan'id. Those who don't know what Kan'id is, it's a band formed by 13 to 18 year olds of Kelabit decent. I wouldn't say most of them are pure Kelabits, but they are pretty modernized. So these people were one of the highlights for the Rainforest World Music Festival and I didn't catch half of their performance but I can say after the party that it is one of the best groups that performed that night. Those who missed it lucky you because youtube have some videos. The songs:

LEILING/LILING Actually i didn't know that this song was the unofficial anthem of Sarawak. Nothing much you can say about the tune and words because they're all repetition. From their performance that night, the last half of the song would be more catchy which makes you just want to jump to the beat and have fun in the mud. Like dangdut you knw? *says with an accent* Mostly just jumping around to the beat of this song would make you happy.

THE LAST OF THE GREAT WALES A melodious song, perfect for someone in love. Hah. A romantic song you might say. But this song is actually quite catchy with a fast beat. How Kan'id played this song does sound better then Celtic Crossroads but i do not know about the original artists. It's a cover song for your information, but however, great choice of song with deep meaning maybe? I'd say it was one of the best song they sang that night, I particularly liked the main vocal and the saxophone!

THE WORLD YOU LEFT US Another song perfect if you are in a romantic mood, but the lyrics suggest otherwise. The song has nothing to do with romance. An original song, therefore not a cover and because of that you might want to say that the writter has some talent? Yep written by one of the members of Kan'id. Again repetations in the song but it just makes you want to sing along.

PULONG TAOH You might see some resemblance this song has with The World You Left Us, something that makes you sing along. But I can say I like this song better then the other one. Talent? Definitely some here. Pretty modernized for a Kelabit due to the use of guitars, but no sapes. This song feels like a nice song at the moment! One of the good ones.

KU AYU' ANUD APBA' This song didn't actually catch my attention, but there was a bit of fantastic guitaring. Nonetheless credits for playing something less modernized which do actually show some Sarawakian culture.

So links! Everyone wants links!

THE SHORT TALK I

So then i realise that people who bring Malaysian fame to other parts of the world arn't actually that Malaysian. Kan'id for example, most of them eurasians with caucasian decent. They dont look pure Malay, Chinese or Indian you can tell. So does this mean Malaysia has no international talents? Think about it. Take Hannah Tan for instance, a Miss Malaysia once, and she comes from Penang, Kuching and New Zealand decent. Deborah Priya Henry is another example whos mother is pure Irish and her father is a Malaysian from Australia. Now does that tell you how un-Malaysian she is? Another who made it into the global music entertainment, Che'Nelle. A Sabahan as everyone says, but she was actually brought up in Australia and she dont speak the national language. Not forgetting some MTV or Channel [V] VJs who don't actually know about Malaysia. So please! Don't brag how good Malaysia is!

THE SHORT TALK II

So I just came back from playing futsal and someone! someone didn't know i play futsal! Haha. My legs hurt at the moment, had a clash with Andre my man haha but its alright! I'm alright!
